Pageant Preparation: What Do I Do First.

One of my favorite movies is The Sound of Music. I love the scene where Maria (Julie Andrews) asks the children to sing along with her, and their response is that they don’t know how to sing. Shocked at the very thought that anyone couldn’t do such a basic skill she “starts at the very beginning” and teaches the children the simple abc’s of music. Maria explains that these simple steps are the tools upon which all songs are built.

“When you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything”. Within minutes, the children are singing beautiful songs with complicated rhythms and harmonies. But they had to master the basics first.

Pageantry is no different but it will take longer than a 3 minute song :). For the most part, you can’t just grab a dress out of your closet, arrive at the pageant and expect to have a winning experience. There are basic steps that need to be addressed first before you move on to the more complicated areas. [Read more…]

10 Insider Secrets to Winning Beauty Pageants

WTP_CROWN For Website

Do you want to know a secret? It’s wonderful to have that inclusive feeling of “I’m special because I have the inside scoop to what’s going on.” However, to be on the outside of an inner circle is quite another story.

I vividly remember the first time at a beauty pageant when I experienced feeling like I was on the outside. I had made the leap from doing small festival pageants to big time beauty pageants. Throughout the weekend  I wondered how some of the contestants seemed to know more information about the pageant than me. Who taught it to them? Where did they receive pageant help? How did they prepare for pageant competition? Why wasn’t this “secret” information made available to everyone? Why was it so hard to find?

So let me share with you what I found out. There are insider secrets to winning beauty pageants. For the most part, there are only a couple ways to find it.

The first way is through your own trial and error. This could use up a lot of your time, energy and money. Personally, I am a very focused and goal oriented person so the idea of wasting my resources and trying to reinvent the wheel did not excite me. Been there, done that. NEXT.

The second way is to find an experienced pageant person who has done what you want to do and have them help you prepare. Sounds easy, but it wasn’t. And once you do find someone, they may not share the whole story with you.

And, finally, you could educate yourself. The problem I had with this was I didn’t know where to start. I couldn’t find that magic manual, or website that had everything in one spot. I easily spent hundreds of hours surfing and reading websites, industry magazines and the few books I could find on pageantry in my quest to get the information I needed to achieve the results I wanted. I wanted solid pageant preparation help and tips.
